Everywhere, the bible tells us that if we wish to be saved, we must love our neighbor, care for our neighbor, and engage in active service to our neighbor. Jesus himself tells us that only those who tend to the needs of others will go to heaven (see matthew 25:31–46).
If there had been a list of rules we could keep to go to heaven, god would have sent the rules instead of his own son to die for our sins.
Matthew 22:36-39 - the two greatest commands are to love god and love your neighbor. So, if you believe that love is essential to salvation, then you must believe that obedience to commands is essential to salvation, because love is a command that must be obeyed!.
We must recognize that we are sinners who fall short of god’s glory, and we must obey the command to repent of our sins and place our faith and trust in jesus christ. Christ alone was a “good person”—good enough to earn heaven—and he gives his righteousness to those who believe in his name (romans 1:17).
“no one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.
We love our spouses, and we have a hard time imagining anything greater god can have in store in heaven, but as stated in 1 corinthians 2:9 above, he has prepared something for us in heaven beyond.
Yes, heaven is a place of total happiness and peace, and we can be confident that our loved ones who have gone before us into heaven are not disturbed or upset over the evil things that happen here on earth. The bible doesn’t clearly tell us if people in heaven are able to observe what happens on earth–although there are some hints that.
The word “righteous” is written at least 558 times in the bible, so we can see that it is an extremely important matter. Here we’ve gathered together just 29 bible verses about righteousness, to give a bit of a glimpse into god’s thoughts about the topic.
Again, there is only one road that leads to heaven and we can only travel that path if we obey god’s word and worship him in spirit and in truth. The devil wants you to think that you don’t have to pay close attention to god’s word and that you can make it to heaven by doing things your way, but that idea is foreign to the bible.
The love of god must engage the total person (heart, soul, mind). * jesus goes beyond the extent of the question put to him and joins to the greatest and the first commandment a second, that of love of neighbor, lv 19:18; see note on mt 19:18–19. This combination of the two commandments may already have been made in judaism.
Philippians 3:20-21 but our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a savior, the lord jesus christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.
And the greatest of all of god’s commandments is that we love him with our whole being (matthew 22:37–38). It’s the greatest commandment because it is the fountainhead of all the others. It is the very heart of every other joy-producing commandment, and the only way we can faithfully obey those commandments (matthew 22:40).
In the same way, if we love anything—husband, wife, children or even our own lives—more than we love god, we are setting our affection on the gift rather than the giver, which is a transgression of the first commandment.
We all do things we shouldn’t more often than we would like. But if we do our best to focus what energy we can on loving our neighbor by helping and serving our fellow human beings in good and practical ways, then even if we ourselves may be pretty rough around the edges, god will have a place for us in heaven.
When we obey, we don’t try to control our lives and the situations around us by our own human strength. Instead, we focus on the lord by keeping him and his word before our eyes and allowing him to have his way and trusting that he will fulfill his promises. We cannot claim to love god without obeying him and his word.
The answer is no because the greek word for “keep” does not have the idea of “perfection” but of “guarding or watching. The meaning becomes clear just a few verses later when we read,.
Christ paid the full penalty for our sins, as we’ve mentioned earlier. But as believers, now, the moral law, the ten commandments—we have to do that by the spirit, isn’t that what paul is telling us here?.
The point is, we cannot work our way to heaven, but because we have been redeemed by the blood of the lamb, we will have good works - not to be saved, but because we are saved. If jesus christ is living and dwelling in our hearts, we cannot help but have good works in our lives, doing good for others, helping those less fortunate than ourselves.
According to the bible, the greatest thing we can accomplish in this life is to get another person saved and brought home to the lord – because with the gift of eternal salvation comes the gift of eternal life – which means that when we die, we will be able to enter into heaven to be with god, jesus, the holy spirit, all of their angels, and all of our saved loved ones who have passed away.
And still feel condemned, convicted, like i did my first 5 years of being a “christian”. I was attending church regularly, led bible studies, taught sunday school or kids’ church.
The bible makes it very clear that good works will not get us into heaven. We can only be saved by grace through our faith in jesus christ and his sacrificial death on the cross. However, once we are saved, god the father expects us to do something with what time we still have left down here on this earth.
For i say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. New king james version for i say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
In christ alone, we can be confident that nothing will separate us from the love of god (romans 8:38-39). By his death, we are mercifully released from the just consequence of sin: our own death. We are also humbled and released from the burden of having to judge who is worthy of salvation.
